Jahn Regensburg experiences an “extremely bitter” home debacle. The otherwise strong defense crumbles enormously against Karlsruhe. The captain finds clear words.

Regensburg (dpa / lby) – Referee Michael Bacher felt sorry for the absolutely depressed Regensburgers and did not allow a single second to be played. After the 0:6 home debacle on Saturday against Karlsruher SC, the Oberpfälzer without a chance dragged themselves off the wet lawn in the Jahnstadion. Judging by the pictures, no one listened to coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s speech, who gathered his team in a circle around him. The disappointment about the next defeat in the 2nd Bundesliga seemed too great.

“It’s difficult to explain that we’re falling apart like this,” said captain Benedikt Gimber and criticized: “We were just too sleepy from the first minute to the 90th. Today we just weren’t competitive. Extremely bitter.”

For more than 90 minutes, unimaginative Regensburgers watched as the guests combined easily across the field. The otherwise strong defense, which had only allowed one goal so far, crumbled enormously. Jahn keeper Dejan Stojanovic was under constant fire and had more to do than in the first four games of the season combined. “It feels like every shot went in,” said Jahn defender Benedikt Saller: “But it’s better to be 6-0 once than 1-0 five times.”

Marcel Franke (7th), Paul Nebel (14th) and Jerôme Gondorf (43rd) opened the goal spectacle for the ripped off Badeners. Double goalscorer Fabian Schleusener (48th/66th) and Tim Breithaupt (78th) followed up.

The three changes that Jahn coach Mersad Selimbegovic made during the break had no positive effect. On the contrary: Substitute Scott Kennedy carelessly gave up a ball in his own penalty area – Schleusener used the invitation to make it 4-0.

In the end, the Jahn professionals just longed for the final whistle. After a sovereign start to the season, the Regensburgers are slipping more and more towards the bottom of the table. “It just can’t happen to us like that again,” Gimber demanded.
