Dresden (dpa / sn) – The helpers of the DRF air rescue in Saxony were also in demand this year. The three red and white helicopters stationed in Saxony were alerted 1,622 times from January to June, according to the air rescue service on Thursday. In the entire previous year there were almost 3000 missions in the Free State. Nationwide, the crews of the 29 stations and the two air ambulances were alerted a total of 19,791 times from January to June 2022. Compared to the same period last year, this represents an increase of eight percent.
The DRF Group, based in Filderstadt in Baden-Württemberg, claims to be one of the largest air rescue organizations in Europe. Patients with heart disease (21 percent) were treated most frequently in the first half of the year, followed by neurological incidents (18 percent) and accident victims from falls and traffic accidents (11 percent).
According to their own statements, the air rescuers are within 15 minutes of flight at an operation site within a radius of 60 kilometers. The air rescuers carried out around 20 percent of their missions during the first half of the year during the night hours.
