On Sunday, four people sustained injuries in Carhaix when a cable snapped and they lifted a menhir that was 8.30m high and weighed 30 tonnes.

Four people were slightly injured when one of the cables holding the menhir was lifted fell. “The firefighters from Finistere said that the latter were taken to Carhaix hospital.

With the help of several dozen volunteers the elevation of the menhir is the first stage in the 25-hectare StoneBreizh tourist park project. This project aims to recreate a megalithic circular in central Brittany. It involves the construction of a 43-meter diameter circle, punctuated with 36 granite monoliths between 5 and 6 meters high. These monoliths will be topped by lintels. This is done in order to create a “place of celebration” and “transmit the memory of Brittany” in order to “resist cultural erasure.”

The circle will be surrounded with a second circle made of schist stelae. This will “reflect the brilliance of Brittany and rediscovered pride” and “evoke key dates in Breton History and major players in these events”.
