2024 MINI Aceman E Exclusive Review: Entry-Level EV with Significant Range Drop

news-28112024-124245

The new MINI Aceman E Exclusive is an entry-level electric vehicle that offers a more affordable option compared to the SE model. Despite being over £4,000 cheaper, there are some compromises to consider when choosing the E variant.

In terms of performance, the MINI Aceman E comes with a smaller battery and a less powerful motor than the SE. However, with 181bhp and 290Nm, the E still offers a quick acceleration, reaching 0-62mph in just 7.9 seconds. The smaller battery results in a range drop, with the E model capable of up to 192 miles on a single charge.

During a test drive, the real-world range of the Aceman E was around 146 miles, affected by factors like cool temperatures and strong winds. The SE model, with its larger battery, would offer a range closer to 200 miles. Both models can charge at up to 95kW, allowing the E to charge to 80% in just 29 minutes.

When it comes to driving experience, the MINI Aceman E behaves similarly to the SE, offering plenty of performance and MINI’s signature go-kart handling. The cabin design and quality are not compromised in the E model, with features like a central screen, Apple and Android connectivity, and optional upgrades like a head-up display and adaptive LED lights.

Different trim levels offer additional features like heated front seats, wireless phone charging, a panoramic roof, and a Harman Kardon sound system. However, choosing higher trim levels will increase the overall price of the car and may lead to additional charges like the luxury VED surcharge if the list price exceeds £40,000.

In terms of space and practicality, the MINI Aceman E can comfortably accommodate four passengers, with limited space for a fifth person. The boot is suitable for small suitcases but may not be as spacious as some of its competitors in the same segment.

Overall, the MINI Aceman E Exclusive offers an affordable entry point into the world of electric vehicles, with decent performance, range, and features. While the SE model may provide additional range and functionality, the E variant presents a compelling option for those looking for a budget-friendly electric SUV with a fun driving experience.
