A “bright flash”, a “neon green light”… On the Vigie-Ciel site, many observers testified to the unusual phenomenon that they were able to admire in the sky on the night of Tuesday February 28 to Wednesday February 1. March. Shortly after midnight, says the Lorraine Republican, a fluorescent meteor crossed the sky and was visible from the east of the country, in Lorraine and Franche-Comté. This type of particularly luminous celestial body is called a “bolide”.

The nature of the phenomenon was quickly confirmed by the network of Fripon specialists, whose cameras captured images of the meteor in Reims and Valcourt, Haute-Marne, around 00:25.

Several residents have submitted a testimony of their observations on the Vigie-Ciel site: “I saw like a big bright flash that suddenly went out and, just before, it was as if a first smaller piece had detached and extinguished just before,” says Damien, who observed the meteor from Velaines, in the Meuse. Emmanuel, residing in Vesheim, Moselle, describes a “bright fluorescent green light”.
