Baden-Württemberg: Additional trains and seats planned for 9-euro tickets

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Ministry of Transport in Baden-Württemberg is preparing for the expected rush of passengers with the 9-euro ticket. If bottlenecks are expected, additional trains and capacities should be made available, as department head Winfried Hermann (Greens) announced on Friday in Stuttgart. Overall, the ministry is assuming 2.2 million additional seats on 730,000 train kilometers and around 30,000 additional train kilometers. The situation should be reassessed and coordinated every week by a team of experts from those involved.

It is also planned to support passengers on the platforms on popular routes and to inform them about bottlenecks in the trains. Particular attention is paid to the routes that are already in demand today, such as the Frankenbahn, the routes towards Lake Constance and the Murgtäler Radexpress.

With the 9-euro tickets, passengers can use local public transport throughout Germany in June, July and August – for 9 euros per month. According to the railway, more than a million of the special tickets were sold by Tuesday. With the offer, the federal government wants to relieve citizens in the face of inflation and make switching to public transport more attractive.
