Baden-Württemberg: ATM blown up: over 20 patrol cars in action

Sinsheim/Dornstadt (dpa/lsw) – After two ATMs in Sinsheim and Dornstadt were blown up, the criminals escaped in both cases despite a large-scale search. In Sinsheim (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis), officials with more than 20 patrol cars were looking for the perpetrators who had violently opened a bank branch early Thursday morning and stolen 70,000 euros. The damage to the machine and the interior of the bank is estimated at 80,000 euros, the police said on Friday. According to her, officers from the police headquarters in Heilbronn, Ludwigsburg and Karlsruhe were also involved in the ring alarm search.

Also in Dornstadt (Alb-Donau-Kreis), where the attack was made early Friday morning, an immediate extensive search was unsuccessful. The investigators found a debris field of at least 50 meters around the crime scene. A few banknotes were still there. In addition to the identity of the perpetrators, the extent of the property damage and the type of explosive used are part of the further investigations.

In the southwest, 41 automated blasts were recorded in 2020, 25 of which failed. This is the highest value since 2017. At that time there were 18 cases, including 8 attempts. According to the State Criminal Police Office, the clear-up rate is 36.6 percent. Last year the number was 23, lower than in 2020 – probably because of the corona restrictions.
