Baden-Württemberg: collective bargaining dispute: Pforzheim's mayor warns of budget holes

Pforzheim (dpa / lsw) – In view of the salary demands in the wage dispute in the public sector, Pforzheim’s Mayor Peter Boch has warned of holes in the municipal budget. Projects from the municipal council could be delayed, said the CDU politician on Tuesday in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”. It’s about 15, 16 million euros a year, “what the whole thing costs us”. Such sums must first be generated.

The Verdi union and the civil servants’ association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more per month. The employer side had rejected the demands as “unaffordable”. The negotiations concern, among other things, educators, nurses, bus drivers, geriatric nurses, firefighters and garbage workers who are employed by the federal government or in municipalities.

Verdi again called for warning strikes on Tuesday – this time in Tübingen, Baden-Baden, in the Rems-Murr and Böblingen districts and in the clinics in Ehingen and Blaubeuren. Day care centers are affected in all municipalities and also local transport in Baden-Baden, the union said.
