Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) – As an advertisement for waste avoidance and sustainable consumption, students at the Karlsruhe University of Education have created a work of art from discarded flower pots. In the past few months, Thomas Semmelmann had collected around 1,000 ceramic planters of different sizes, shapes and colors from bulky waste and cleaned them in an environmentally friendly manner. The environmental group of the PHUK University! used it to build a colorful sun on the market square on Saturday. The students then sold the flower pots for the benefit of the Karlsruhe cultural kitchen, a meeting place for creative people and interested people with a cheap lunch.
“Our campaign is intended to encourage people to check things for their recyclability before throwing them away,” said PHUK! member and art student Anna Stitz, according to the university. The municipal project “Meine Grüne Stadt Karlsruhe” supported the campaign “Turn waste into art”.
