Baden-Württemberg: Delays and cancellations due to the train driver strike at SWEG

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Again, due to the tariff dispute between the train drivers’ union GDL and the Südwestdeutsches Landesverkehr GmbH (SWEG), rail customers have to be prepared for train cancellations and delays indefinitely. The members of the union stopped working at the company again at short notice on Monday morning. An end to the strike is not yet in sight, SWEG said.

SWEG advises travelers to get information online and via the DB Navigator app. There should be restrictions, especially in and around Stuttgart. The GDL only announced a strike at short notice on Friday afternoon. As a result, there were failures for one day on SBS lines in the Stuttgart network and Neckar valley.

The conflict is about the fact that the Union of German Locomotive Drivers (GDL), according to their own statements, would like to negotiate a collective agreement for the more than 500 railway workers not only for SBS, but for the entire SWEG group. The group has a total of 1800 employees.

SWEG rejects this and does not want to take over the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg – today SBS – permanently. The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.
