Baden-Württemberg: Eichner jokes about looking for a striker: Tip from Herrlich

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – After the move from top scorer Philipp Hofmann to Bundesliga club VfL Bochum, second division football club Karlsruher SC is looking for a new striker. But coach Christian Eichner can’t be brought out of his composure. At the International Coaches’ Congress of the Association of German Football Instructors (BDFL) on Wednesday, he even joked. “I’m still looking for someone who has an idea here in the hall, my phone number is on file,” said Eichner at the panel discussion at the end of the three-day event. “15 to 20 would be necessary – not millions, but goals.”

A first suggestion came directly from the round of interviews: the former Bundesliga coach Heiko Herrlich promoted a youngster from Borussia Dortmund, whom he observed in the semi-finals of the German A-Junior Championship between BVB and Schalke. “The question is whether he’ll make it to the top there, but maybe you could borrow him,” advised Herrlich.

Eichner initially did not comment on this. When the participants in the round, which also included the coaches Christian Streich (SC Freiburg), Frank Wormuth (from summer FC Groningen) and Hannes Wolf (German U19 national team), were jokingly asked to choose an assistant coach, the decision was made the KSC coach for ex-striker Herrlich: “Then he can go out and play again.”
