Baden-Württemberg: ex-professional Gerber becomes the coach of the Stuttgart women's soccer team

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The former Bundesliga professional Heiko Gerber will be the new coach of the women’s soccer team at VfB Stuttgart. The club announced this on Thursday. The Swabians, who previously played for VfB Obertürkheim and will be playing for VfB Stuttgart this season, have set themselves the goal of promotion to the Oberliga. Between 1999 and 2007, Gerber played a total of 174 competitive games for the VfB pros. Most recently, he was assistant coach of the Bundesliga club’s U21s. He is to continue this task on a reduced basis.

“VfB is my club and women’s football is growing rapidly. Being the head coach of the first women’s team in the history of VfB Stuttgart is therefore a very special task,” said the 50-year-old. The previous interim coach of the women’s team, Lisa Lang, will be at his side as an assistant.
