Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The extension of the S-Bahn from Filderstadt to Neuhausen auf den Fildern can start. As Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann (Greens) announced on Wednesday in Stuttgart, the federal government will assume around 171 million euros of the total costs of around 210 million euros – the state around 21 million euros. The association of the Stuttgart, Filderstadt and Neuhausen region and the district of Esslingen have to bear the rest of the costs. The line, which is almost four kilometers long, is not scheduled to go into operation until 2027 at the earliest.
The aim is to open up Filderstadt-Sielmingen and Neuhausen auf den Fildern by local rail transport with direct connections to Stuttgart Airport and the new Filderbahnhof that is being built as part of the large-scale Stuttgart 21 project, as well as to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof.
