Baden-Württemberg: Fire in the Stuttgart S-Bahn station slows down traffic

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Because of a fire in the Feuersee S-Bahn station in Stuttgart, travelers had problems on all lines on Wednesday evening. The cause of the fire was initially just as unclear as the possible duration of the route closure. Those who wanted to go home from the Christmas market had to make detours.

Some S-Bahn only went to the main station, as the S-Bahn informed via the short message service Twitter. Others stopped even further from the city center, for example in Feuerbach or Zuffenhausen. According to Deutsche Bahn, the route should be released again on Wednesday if possible.

It burned in an expansion joint, said a spokeswoman for the federal police. Open flames could be seen. There were sparks when extinguishing. The fire brigade had been on duty for more than an hour. The overhead line was also switched off.

Police officers were not only on duty at the Feuersee station in the evening to seal off the entrances. Officials at the Schwabstraße and Stadtmitte stops would also inform passers-by that there were no S-Bahn trains, the spokeswoman said.
