Tübingen (dpa / lsw) – The University of Tübingen honors the Judaist Peter Ochs with the Leopold Lucas Prize. This honors his merits in the dialogue between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, as announced by the Protestant Theological Faculty on Friday. Ochs played a key role in developing and spreading the method of “scriptural reasoning”. The method pursues the goal of mediating between members of the religions through joint reading and discussion of the Holy Scriptures. The prize is endowed with 50,000 euros and will be presented on May 9th.
Every year, the Leopold Lucas Prize honors outstanding achievements in spreading the idea of ??tolerance in the fields of theology, intellectual history, historical research and philosophy. It was donated in 1972 to commemorate the Jewish scholar and rabbi Leopold Lucas, who was murdered in 1943 in the Theresienstadt Nazi concentration camp.
