Göppingen (dpa / lsw) – More than 36 years after the crime, a former US soldier has been charged with attempted murder in the Ulm district court. This was announced by the public prosecutor’s office in Ulm on Tuesday. The 64-year-old US citizen is said to have attacked, severely beat and raped a then 29-year-old woman in a park in Göppingen in October 1985. The victim survived the act with serious injuries. Investigators were able to identify the man based on DNA evidence. The suspect has been in custody since his extradition from the USA to Germany at the end of April 2022.
