Baden-Württemberg: Students want to break the world record with electric racing cars

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – With a self-built model, students from Stuttgart want to break the world record for accelerating an electric racing car. The aim is to go from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than one and a half seconds. During the test next Thursday at a fire brigade site in Horb am Neckar (Freudenstadt district), the self-proclaimed green team from the University of Vaihingen is also aiming to bring the record for the fastest accelerating electric vehicle back to Germany.

This is actually nothing new for the people from Stuttgart, because the fight for the fastest time has been a back and forth for a decade, especially between the teams from Vaihingen and Zurich. The Stuttgart team has already held the record twice – and the Swiss have always been able to beat the performance.

“We are extremely motivated and have invested so much time and energy in the project that we are firmly convinced that we can break the world record,” said Pavel Povolni, the first chairman of the Greenteam Uni Stuttgart sponsorship association. The Greenteam was founded in 2009 and regularly takes part in the international design competition for students “Formula Student”.
