Baden-Württemberg: The number of corona patients in normal wards is falling

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The corona situation in the clinics in the southwest has eased further. The number of Covid-19 cases in normal wards has been below 1000 for the first time since the beginning of July, according to the management report from the State Health Office (LGA) on Thursday. Accordingly, there are still 950 patients, 328 fewer than a week ago. Compared to Wednesday, the number fell by 86. The LGA does not distinguish whether a person is being treated for or with an infection. There were also 76 people in the intensive care units, nine fewer patients than a week ago – but one more than on Wednesday.

The nationwide seven-day incidence dropped to 181.2. A week earlier, the number of weekly infections per 100,000 inhabitants was 225.0.

However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

In total, 16,893 people have died from the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic and up to Thursday, 7 more than on Wednesday.
