Bavaria: Administrative Court: Climate lawsuit by environmental aid

The Bavarian climate protection policy is before the court: The Administrative Court has to deal with a lawsuit by environmental aid. The state government has a clear opinion on this.

Munich (dpa / lby) – The Bavarian Administrative Court will deal with the state government’s climate protection policy on Thursday (10 a.m.). Specifically, the public hearing is about a lawsuit by Deutsche Umwelthilfe, which considers the Bavarian climate protection measures to be inadequate. A decision is usually not announced by the court until later.

With its lawsuit, environmental aid wants to force the state government to implement an “effective” climate protection program. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and his cabinet have so far failed to do so, criticized environmental aid in advance. Instead, the government merely presented “a random list” without even claiming that these measures are suitable for achieving its own climate protection goals.

The state government considers the association’s complaint to be inadmissible. According to the court, she argues that environmental aid “as an environmental association already lacks the authority to bring such a lawsuit”.
