Bavaria: grave cross thieves on Siegsdorfer cemetery

Siegsdorf (dpa / lby) – The theft of several grave crosses in the cemetery in Siegsdorf in Upper Bavaria is a mystery to the police. At the weekend, thieves sawed off the bronze grave cross of a family grave, officials in Traunstein reported on Monday. The family filed a complaint. The cross from 1984 was a one-off production from Italy and, in addition to the material value, also has a high emotional value for the relatives.

The cross was firmly anchored in the stone and was forcibly sawed off or flexed, officials said. They took the opportunity to inspect the cemetery and discovered four other graves from which the grave crosses had been stolen. Whether it was about the material or whether the thieves had planned something else with the crosses remained unclear. The police have not yet been able to name the extent of the damage.
