Dillingen an der Donau (dpa/lby) – The new district administrator in Swabian Dillingen will be determined in a runoff today. The free voter candidate Markus Müller was in the lead in the first ballot two weeks ago with 48.2 percent, the CSU candidate Christoph Mettel came close behind with 45.4 percent.
Mettel is currently the mayor of the Haunsheim municipality. He used to work as a jet pilot for the Bundeswehr. Müller heads the Swabian district association of the Bavarian Farmers’ Association. However, since neither of the two achieved an absolute majority, a decision must now be made in the second round. Turnout in the first ballot was just 45.6 percent.
The previous district administrator, the free voter Leo Schrell, had not run again after three terms in office. After 38 years in local politics, it should be enough, the 64-year-old justified his resignation.
