Bamberg (dpa / lby) – The diocesan administrator of the Archdiocese of Bamberg, Auxiliary Bishop Herwig Gössl, has the deceased former Pope Benedict XVI. referred to as a “great theologian and good shepherd”. He was a “highly educated person”, said Gössl on Saturday. “But he wasn’t conceited at all, and that’s a peculiarity.”
Bamberg Archbishop Ludwig Schick, who resigned in November, said of Benedict XVI: “He passed on the faith faithfully, genuinely, trustingly and happily. Through his comprehensive knowledge and his deep piety, he was a stable foundation for the church and a far-sighted navigator.”
