As ESPN reports, former Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul tragically died at the age of 31 last Tuesday following a car accident, her federation announced. The athlete represented Canada at the 2014 Sochi Games in ice dancing, a competition she finished in 18th place.
According to local police, a truck collided with a line of stopped vehicles in a construction zone near Toronto, Ontario. Alexandra Paul was in one of these cars and did not survive the violent impact. The former figure skater was accompanied by her 10-month-old son, who survived. He suffered only very minor injuries. The three other passengers in the vehicle were injured but their lives are not in danger.

During her career, Alexandra Paul notably won a silver medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2010. After representing Canada at the 2014 Sochi Games in ice dancing, she announced that she was retiring from competitive skating. in 2016.
