The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) recently closed down two petroleum retail outlets and two gas stations in Delta State due to unethical practices. The Delta State Coordinator of NMDPRA, Engr. Victor Ohwodiasa, made this announcement during a press briefing in Warri, Delta State.

The closure of these establishments occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday in areas around Asaba and Ibusa after surveillance by the regulatory authority’s team. The affected stations were found to be engaged in activities such as under-dispensing, operating without proper licenses, and other illegal actions.

Ohwodiasa emphasized the importance of protecting consumers from being shortchanged, stating that the authority’s primary goal is to ensure that customers receive the correct amount of fuel they pay for. Any violations, such as under-dispensing, result in immediate closure of the facilities involved.

The NMDPRA will continue to uphold strict standards to minimize discrepancies in fuel dispensing. Ohwodiasa stressed the importance of accurately calibrated pumps to prevent any fraudulent practices that could deceive customers.

In an effort to safeguard consumers, the regulatory body sealed four stations in Asaba and Ibusa for non-compliance with licensing and dispensing regulations just this week. Ohwodiasa reiterated the commitment to maintaining vigilance during the upcoming high-demand “ember months” to protect consumers.

He urged the public to report any suspicious activities at filling stations, such as under-dispensing or poor product quality, to the regulatory body. By relying on vigilant consumers to report such cases, the NMDPRA can promptly address compliance issues.

In conclusion, Ohwodiasa assured the people of Delta State that the NMDPRA will continue monitoring fuel outlets across the state to uphold standards and address consumer concerns effectively. It is essential for all stakeholders in the petroleum industry to adhere to regulations and prioritize consumer protection to maintain a fair and transparent market for all.
