Great Central Railway: The Great Central Railway: A gang steals 46 steam train parts valued at PS50k

The stolen parts of a steam train with a history of 76 years have been taken by burglars. It is currently undergoing major restoration.

Great Central Railway claimed that up to PS50,000 worth of parts for trains were stolen from Loughborough depot between 1 July and 2 July.

Officials claim that a storage container was broken into during raid.

A spokesperson is appealing to scrap metal dealers to contact them if they offer similar items.

The stolen parts were in the store at Warner Place, when the theft occurred between 23:30 BST Friday and 03:30 Saturday.

According to a representative of the railway, thieves stole copper piping and steam boiler valves as well as expansion links. These items were made specifically for a 1946 Boscastle steam locomotive.

A spokesperson for Great Central Railway said that the team involved in the restoration were devastated by the theft, despite the hard work they put into manufacturing the parts.

“If you know of any scrap dealers or scrap merchants, please let us know. We will contact them if we can offer any parts like this.

If items are returned and found, a reward is possible.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police stated that anyone with information about the incident should contact police, quoting reference 23*380041
