Hesse: Cities let special corona rights for restaurateurs expire

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – This spring in many cities, Hesse’s innkeepers are no longer allowed to simply place their tables on sidewalks and public squares. As a sample by the German Press Agency in the country’s largest municipalities showed, they have either already withdrawn the special conditions granted during the corona pandemic or are planning to do so. Accordingly, with the beginning of the outdoor season, public areas in many places are only available to a lesser extent for gastronomy.

In order to support the restaurateurs, many municipalities generously expanded the areas for outdoor catering during the pandemic or waived the fees for the special use of public areas for the operators of restaurants or cafés. Tents or heaters were also allowed to be set up. The Hotel and Gastronomy Association (Dehoga) Hessen calls for further support for the hosts: “Cities that have introduced facilitation for outdoor gastronomy should extend the regulations,” explained Oliver Kasties, interim general manager.
