Hesse: FDP parliamentary group wants to establish fusion research in Hesse

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) has emphasized the technology-open funding approach of the Hessian state government. In order to advance the energy transition, dependence on fossil fuels must be ended as quickly as possible, said the Green politician on Thursday in the Hessian state parliament in Wiesbaden. Fusion technology could possibly provide a clean and safe energy supply in the future. “Of course nobody knows today whether that will succeed.” At the moment, fusion technology is far from having broad technical applicability in practice.

In the state parliament debate, the FDP parliamentary group had campaigned for funding for fusion research and for Hessen to be established as a location for it. “The merger is linked to the great hope of being able to develop a completely new source of energy: energy that can be provided indefinitely, safely, controllably, economically and in a climate-friendly manner,” said Stefan Naas, Deputy Head of the FDP parliamentary group. The fusion research is the chance for a huge leap of the Hessian business and technology location.
