Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The rise in prices in Hesse slowed down in July. Consumer prices rose by 7.6 percent compared to the same month last year, as announced by the State Statistical Office on Thursday. In June, the inflation rate was 8.1 percent. Inflation is fueled further by energy and food price jumps. The tank discount introduced at the beginning of June and the 9-euro ticket are intended to relieve people.
Energy prices rose by 33.7 percent within a year. Heating oil was more than twice as expensive. Consumers had to pay 89 percent more for natural gas than in July 2021. Fuel rose by 21.5 percent: the prices for diesel rose by 38.9 percent and for petrol by 14.9 percent.
Compared to June, however, energy prices fell by 4.3 percent. The end of the EEG surcharge to promote green electricity via the electricity bill also contributed to this. Fuel cost 6.5 percent less than in the previous month. Petrol was 7.5 percent cheaper and diesel 4.3 percent cheaper.
Food prices increased by 14.7 percent compared to the same month last year. Edible fats and oils (45.5 percent), including butter (52 percent), were more expensive than average.
