Hesse: Municipalities achieve maximum value in trade tax revenue

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Thanks to the good economy, the Hessian municipalities collected around 3.5 billion euros in trade tax in the first half of 2022. According to the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday, this is a new high. The volume climbed by 23.4 percent compared to the first half of 2019 from before the corona pandemic.

The city of Frankfurt contributed the largest share of the total volume in the first half of 2022 with around 1.3 billion euros. In Marburg, trade tax payments of EUR 223.7 million were significantly higher than in the first half of 2021 (EUR 76.5 million). The vaccine manufacturer Biontech took over a production plant in Marburg last autumn.

In Darmstadt, on the other hand, the revenue from trade tax fell by 4.7 percent to 94.3 million euros in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, in Offenbach by around 28 percent to 31.9 million euros.
