Groß-Umstadt (dpa/lhe) – A burning scented candle caused a fire in an apartment in an apartment building in Groß-Umstadt (Darmstadt-Dieburg district). According to the police on Wednesday, the 51-year-old homeowner was taken to a clinic with severe burn injuries, and his 43-year-old wife suffered from mild smoke inhalation. The family’s three underage children, like the rest of the residents, were able to leave the building unharmed.
The apartment almost burned out, three other apartments were badly affected by smoke and extinguishing water. According to initial conservative estimates, the damage could amount to several hundred thousand euros.
