Hesse: University clinic employees go on warning strike again

Gießen (dpa/lhe) – Employees at the privatized university hospital in Gießen and Marburg (UKGM) want to stop working again to emphasize their demand for secure jobs. Two days of warning strikes are planned for next Tuesday and Thursday (November 22nd and 24th), the Verdi union announced on Friday. The non-medical employees are called upon to walk out from the beginning of the early shift to the end of the late shift. “We want to send a clear signal to employers and politicians: stop the dispute at the expense of the employees,” said union secretary Fabian Dzewas-Rehm according to the announcement.

For several months, the state of Hesse and the majority shareholder Rhön-Klinikum AG, which belongs to the Asklepios Group, have been fighting over the question of the future financial resources of the UGKM. The background is that the clinic operator had terminated a so-called future agreement for the hospital in June. Verdi fears that this also threatens the expiry of important securities for employees. UKGM employees had already gone on warning strikes in July and August.
