Homeless man with 106 rounds of ammo arrested outside Port Authority, cops say

NEW YORK — A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon near the Port Authority bus terminal after he was found with a gun and several rounds of ammunition, Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said in a statement.

Amos J. Stowers was stopped by police around 4:30 p.m. on suspicion of smoking marijuana in public. Officers found him in possession of a Kel Tec 9mm pistol loaded with eight rounds, a switchblade, a folding knife and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, including 17 hollow-point rounds, Pentangelo said.

Some of the ammunition was hidden inside tubes of toothpaste found in the suspect’s backpack, Pentangelo also said.

Stowers, who was wanted on two out-of-state warrants, was charged with several counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
