Illinois man is being held on $1,000,000 bail in connection to an alleged anti-gay assault

Decatur police claim that Ethan Dickerson allegedly restrained and struck the victim with a pipe wrench at his Decatur home.

According to Herald & Review, authorities claimed Dickerson threatened to kill the victim with a homophobic rant.

“”You understand why I must do this. … You’re gay. … You’re evil … According to the Herald & Review, Dickerson told the victim that he was going to kill him in a police affidavit.

Dickerson was charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. He also faces aggravated unlawful restraint, home invade, hate crime, and aggravated battery. The state’s attorney will review the charges.

The victim was found by police in the kitchen, with multiple injuries to his head and a significant amount of blood loss. The victim received stitches and was taken to the local hospital.

Dickerson appeared in court Friday morning to face a bond hearing. CBS affiliate WCIA TV reported.

It was not immediately clear if Dickerson retained an attorney. On Sunday, a listed telephone number for Dickerson could not be found.
