JB Gill on How His Past Dance Experience Differs from Strictly

news-17102024-132057

Strictly contestant JB Gill has responded to criticism about his previous dance experience by explaining that the ballroom and Latin dancing he is learning on the show is completely different from what he did with his boy band, JLS. During an interview on The One Show, he emphasized that the moves he is mastering on Strictly are new to him, despite his past dance background.

Gill’s professional partner, Amy Dowden, supported his statement by clarifying that he had never taken a dance lesson before joining the show. She highlighted the distinction between the choreography he did with JLS and the ballroom and Latin styles he is now tackling on Strictly.

The duo also shared how Gill incorporated some JLS dance moves into his performances on the show, with Dowden allowing him some creative freedom in certain routines. Despite facing challenges with the Rumba in week four, Gill managed to impress the judges and earn a high score on the leaderboard.

Reflecting on his initial struggles with the Rumba, Gill admitted that he was not initially fond of the dance but eventually grew to love it after working hard in rehearsals. He credited Dowden for helping him overcome his reservations and fully embrace the routine.

As the competition on Strictly Come Dancing continues, Gill’s dedication to learning new dance styles and improving each week is evident. Viewers can tune in to BBC One on Saturdays to watch his progress on the show, which airs at 6.25pm. And for more behind-the-scenes insights, The One Show on BBC One at 7pm offers a closer look at Gill’s journey on the dance floor.
