Kansas Guy, brother Detained Several federal charges related to Capitol riot

A Kansas guy and his brother were equally detained Friday on several federal charges connected for their alleged participation from the riot in the U.S. Capitol previous month.

William Pope, of Topeka, was detained by the FBI and Topeka police officers with no incident and has been held without bail at the Shawnee County jail.

He confessed his participation in the riot and maintained he hadn’t been violent but added that he afterwards reported himself into the FBI since”it had been the ideal thing to do.”

Pope, 35, conducted for the Topeka City Council this past year as of October 2020, he had been recorded as a Republican precinct committee member in Shawnee County. In addition, he worked briefly as an entry auditor for its Legislative Division of Post Audit, the nation’s official auditing bureau until 2019.

Pope was also an adjunct teacher at Fort Hays State University from January 2016 before May 2020.

Kansas State spokeswoman Michelle Geering said the college is conducting an internal review and won’t comment on future personnel actions.

Fort Hays State University spokesman Scott Cason stated the school wasn’t aware of any case where Pope’s political perspectives were contained in his schooling, Cason said.

He had been charged with civil disorder; penetrating and staying in a limited construction or reasons; obstruction or impeding any official proceeding; disorderly and tumultuous behavior at a limited construction or reasons; impeding passing through the Capitol grounds of buildings; disorderly behaviour at a Capitol construction; and parading, demonstrating or picketing at a Capitol building, ” the FBI stated, according to the Capital-Journal.
