Kansas man is on probation for setting fire to a house and the baby it contained

According to officials, a Kansas man is on probation for setting fire to a home with an infant.

According to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office, Nicholas Ecker (28), is being charged with felony murder as well as aggravated arson for Sunday’s Shawnee blaze.

NBC affiliate KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri reported that a baby boy was killed in the fire.

Both the police and the district attorney’s offices declined to comment on the possible relationship between the suspect and the baby.

Shawnee Fire Department Deputy Chief Corey Sands stated, “Our hearts go out the family.” “Shawnee has a close-knit community. We are here to support everyone.

Ecker is currently being held on $1million bond and will appear in court Tuesday.

According to court records, Ecker was indicted for aggravated domestic battery in 2019 and firearm possession by felon. Although the battery charge was dropped in court records, Ecker was sentenced to one year in prison and one year probation for the firearm charge.

Ecker was again charged in January with aggravated domestic violence. Ecker was also charged with violating a protection order in January. The order was amended to include a stalking charge Monday.

Ecker’s lawyer, who represented him previously, didn’t immediately respond to a Tuesday comment request.
