Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has 333.8 million euros in funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) available until 2027. The EU Commission has approved the “ESF Plus Program 2021-2027”, announced the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Schwerin on Tuesday. Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) wants to use the funds to promote business start-ups, reduce disadvantages in the education system and strengthen the integration of refugees.
Overall, the state government set the goal of creating a “high value-added, innovative and sustainable economy with attractive jobs”. “The innovative and future viability of local companies depends on the skills and abilities of their employees. It is also important to show people without professional qualifications career prospects,” says Meyer.
Since the projects are 40 percent co-financed by the state, the total amount of the program is around 556 million euros. Compared to the previous funding period up to 2020, the state is contributing twice as much in percentage terms.
