Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: before the start of the Christmas market: fire at a stall

Rostock (dpa/mv) – The fire at a sales stand led to clouds of smoke in the middle of Rostock’s city center shortly before the start of the Rostock Christmas market. A fire broke out in a waffle shop early Friday afternoon due to a technical defect, a police spokesman said. “Then an oil pan was put into operation and there was a loud bang.” A person suffered smoke inhalation. The radio station “Ostseewelle” had previously reported.

Pictures on the Internet showed dense smoke in the Rostock pedestrian zone not far from the main university building. The owner was able to put out the fire himself. The police and fire brigade were on site. According to the spokesman, no information could be given about the extent of the damage. The Rostock Christmas market – the largest in the northeast – opens on Monday.
