Schwerin (dpa/mv) – From the point of view of the FDP parliamentary group, the burden on the municipalities due to an accumulation of housing benefit applications could have been avoided. The digital housing benefit application developed as part of the federal division of labor in Schleswig-Holstein was not made available in the north-east in time for the turn of the year, said parliamentary group leader RenĂ© Domke on Thursday in Schwerin. The flood of applications in the course of the significant expansion of those entitled to apply was foreseeable.

From the point of view of the Liberals, Interior Minister Christian Level (SPD) has not kept a promise: “The government factions are once again impressively showing the backlog in the implementation of digitization,” said Domke. He demanded that the state government must now catch up on this quickly.

From the point of view of the FDP parliamentary group leader, the digital application lowers the inhibition threshold of those affected to apply for housing benefit: “There are many reports about people who do not want to go into office out of shame. That would also be omitted online.”

At the turn of the year, the housing benefit reform pushed by the federal government came into force, which greatly expanded the circle of those entitled. The state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania assumes that the number of entitled persons will triple to 66,000.
