Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: GdP: Investigation results should be respected

Schwerin/Groß Strömkendorf (dpa/mv) – The police union in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is calling on politicians to respect the results of investigations by the police and the judiciary more. “Anyone who repeatedly doubts the findings of the judiciary and executive of our democratic constitutional state should not be surprised if they are described as promoting distrust of the legislature,” said the state chairman of the police union (GdP), Christian Schumacher, on Tuesday Friday in Schwerin. In his view, this would damage trust in the state as a whole.

On Thursday, the public prosecutor’s office in Schwerin, together with police representatives, presented the current status of the investigation into the fire in the refugee accommodation in Groß Strömkendorf four weeks ago. A firefighter was arrested as a suspect. He is in custody and other crimes are attributed to him. Based on the current findings, the investigators see no evidence of a racially motivated act.

Left and Greens warned on Thursday not to rule out this possibility.

According to his own statement, Schumacher does not want to criticize individual parties, but appeals to politics as a whole. The investigative team made up of the police and the public prosecutor’s office invested a lot of work, investigated in all directions and did not draw any easy conclusions. “I call on those responsible in politics to place the trust in the state police that they deserve, just as the citizens do.”
