Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: gusts of wind damage almost the entire avenue: closure

Jürgenstorf (dpa/mv) – After the storms with heavy gusts of wind on Monday, an entire avenue in the Mecklenburg Lake District also had to be closed for a good week. As a spokesman for the Rostock State Office for Roads said on Wednesday, the storm east of Jürgenstorf severely damaged almost all 400 lime trees on State Road 203. During an inspection, experts have now determined that there is a danger from the treetops of more than 300 trees. Workers would have to use lifting technology to free the crowns of damaged branches, which is why a full closure is necessary.

A storm front with thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusts of wind passed over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from Monday evening to Tuesday morning, which locally reached wind force ten and thus almost 100 kilometers per hour. Due to the dense foliage, the trees currently offer a large target, as experts estimated.

The roof of a barn was also covered near Jürgenstorf in Rottmannshagen on the L203. In Western Pomerania, too, a road had to be closed near Düvier because more than 100 linden trees had also been damaged there.
