Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Helios clinics: number of free intensive care beds is harmless

Schwerin (dpa / mv) – The Helios clinics in Schwerin see no reason for concern despite almost full utilization of the intensive care beds. As a spokesman for the clinic announced, many operations that were postponed during the pandemic are currently being made up for, which is leading to a high utilization of the intensive care unit. If the number of corona patients who require intensive care increases again, one can react at any time and postpone non-critical interventions.

The intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association currently shows only one free of a total of 51 intensive care beds for the hospital in the state capital. There are currently 100 free ICU beds available throughout the state, with a rate of 17.1 percent only Schleswig-Holstein has a proportionally higher free capacity in a state comparison.

According to the Hospital Society Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (KGMV), the special situation in Schwerin is not that easy to generalize. Especially at the four full-service clinics in Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Rostock and Greifswald, special operations are accumulating that require subsequent treatment in an intensive care unit.

According to KGMV Managing Director Uwe Borchmann, the ITS capacity in the pandemic since the delta wave has also lost significance in terms of the overall burden on hospitals. The heavy burden on the clinics in the country continues. A high level of sick leave in connection with the necessary reduction in excess vacation days leads to a shortage of staff here.
