Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Over 4800 foreigners in MV are required to leave the country

Schwerin (dpa/mv) – In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 4,816 foreigners with rejected asylum applications were required to leave the country at the end of last year, most of them – 694 – to Russia. This emerges from the response of the federal government to a small request from the left parliamentary group, which is available to the German Press Agency.

According to this, 589 people actually have to go back to Ukraine. However, due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Germany is currently not deporting any Ukrainians to their homeland. In third place among the countries of origin with the most persons obliged to leave the country in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is Afghanistan with 361 persons obliged to leave the country as of December 31, 2022, followed by Iraq (344) and Syria (260).

However, of the 4,816 rejected asylum seekers, 4,267 were tolerated because it was impossible to leave the country, for example for humanitarian reasons. 549 would have to leave the country immediately. However, according to the response from the federal government, only 158 deportations from MV were carried out in 2022. Another 108 people left voluntarily.

According to the federal government, around two thirds of the deportations of asylum seekers from Germany fail. As can be seen from the answer to a question from the Union faction in the Bundestag, 12,945 deportations were carried out last year. However, 23,337 deportation measures could not have been carried out. Reasons for the failed deportations were, among other things, canceled flights or the absence of the people concerned on the day of departure.
