Waren (dpa/mv) – In the tourist center in Waren an der Müritz, a special show with paintings under the motto “In the watery land” was opened on Saturday. The reason for the art show is the tenth anniversary of the award of the spa status, which the city of Müritz received in 2012, as Mayor Norbert Möller (SPD) said at the opening in the guest house.
The approximately 25 works, some of which are large, are by the artist Daniela Friederike Lüers, who has lived in the Mecklenburg Lake District for 20 years. In her works she has, among other things, staged water reflections, nature and wildlife around the Müritz in different colours. The show will be on view through July 24th.
With 21,000 inhabitants, the brine spa in Waren is the largest city on the Müritz, surrounded by a number of other lakes and is located in the Müritz National Park. Since 2012, the cure – iodine-containing thermal brine and the salt extracted from it – has been used for guests.
The city recently had around 700,000 commercial overnight stays a year, more than the state capital of Schwerin. The thermal brine is extracted from layers of earth 1.5 kilometers deep. It has a medically proven healing effect on diseases of the respiratory organs, skin and problems with the musculoskeletal system.
