Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Usedom Music Festival focuses on Estonia

Heringsdorf (dpa/mv) – At this year’s Usedom Music Festival, Estonia is the focus. The organizers announced on Monday the largest festival of Estonian music outside the Baltic country. From September 17th to October 8th, the young generation of musicians and artists who are among the stars of music in the Baltic States will be presented, said director Thomas Hummel.

Highlights included a major Estonian song festival on September 24th at Wolgast Cathedral and a concert by Estonian accordionist Tuulikki Bartosik on September 18th at Ahlbeck Beach. On October 2, the actress Martina Gedeck told the story of a little Estonian girl in Stalin’s terror in the Imperial Baths Hall in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf. She reads from Viivi Luik’s book “The Seventh Peace Spring” and is accompanied by Hideyo Harada on the piano.

A total of around 35 concerts with more than 350 musicians have been announced. The demand from concert fans is good, says Hummel. With around 60 percent of pre-sold tickets so far, the pre-corona level has been reached again. The opening concert on September 17th at the Peenemünde power plant with the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, which was founded by the festival, is sold out. The Estonian conductor Kristjan Järvi will conduct the concert in front of around 1,200 guests. Tickets are still available for all other events.
