Michigan man Murdered Following cannon explodes at baby shower

A Genesee County homeowner fired the tiny cannon-type apparatus from the garden about 7:30 p.m., to observe the infant’s impending arrival, Michigan State Police said in a news release.

The cannon blew upon shooting, dispersing metal shrapnel that struck the sufferer, Evan Thomas Silva, 26, three parked cars, and also the garage in which the baby shower was held, authorities said, based on MLive.com.

Silva, who had been standing around 10 to 15 feet in the explosion, was shot to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Mich., where he died from his injuries, authorities said.

He had been one of approximately five individuals beyond the house at the time of this explosion, and has been the only one to be struck by shrapnel, MLive.com reported.

The cannon did not include any projectiles, but it was supposed the gunpowder loaded to the apparatus”induced the cannon to crack,” authorities said.

“The homeowner had bought the cannon with an auction before the event and had fired the cannon a few times before. The cannon is intended to make a significant flash, a loud sound, and make smoke,” that the release additional , according to ABC News.

It is uncertain how Silva, from Livingston County, was associated with the homeowner.
