North Rhine-Westphalia: 29-year-old after life-threatening knife attack in custody

Essen (dpa / lnw) – After the life-threatening knife wounds on a 57-year-old man in Essen, the police caught one of the two suspects. The 29-year-old was arrested in his apartment in Grevenbroich (Rhein-Kreis Neuss), the public prosecutor and the police announced on Monday. He is now in custody on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspected accomplice is still being sought.

Passers-by found the 57-year-old with stab wounds in the Dellwig district on Friday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the police, witnesses reported two perpetrators who had attacked the man as he left his house. The two wore orange safety vests and fled in a white van.

According to police information from Monday, the 29-year-old Syrian was arrested on Friday evening, hours after the crime. The background to the crime and the motive were still unclear on Monday.
