North Rhine-Westphalia: fire brigade saves 30 birds from burning gardens

Grevenbroich (dpa / lnw) – The fire brigade saved around 30 birds from a fire in an allotment garden in Grevenbroich on the Lower Rhine. The fire broke out in a gazebo on Thursday night, the fire department said on Thursday. Witnesses noticed the fire. The emergency services then found several bird aviaries threatened by smoke on the property.

Around 20 animals were already dead when the fire department arrived. However, about 30 more could be saved from the smoke and handed over to the responsible veterinary office. The extinguishing work in the allotment garden lasted around five hours. In order to get to the burning hut, the entrances to several garden plots had to be opened. Details of the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were initially unclear.
