North Rhine-Westphalia: man after knife attack on wife in psychiatric ward

Münster (dpa / lnw) – A 50-year-old man who stabbed his wife (46), who was separated from him, with a knife in Münster, has been temporarily accommodated in a psychiatric hospital. During the first medical examination of the man, there were concrete indications that the accused was suffering from a mental illness. This was announced by the public prosecutor’s office and the Münster police on Wednesday.

On suspicion of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm, the district court ordered the suspect, who had admitted the crime during the interrogation, to be placed in temporary custody.

The couple’s two sons, aged 15 and 18, witnessed the father’s knife attack on the mother and are currently in the care of the youth welfare office. The 18-year-old had torn his father away from his mother during the attack on Monday evening and took the knife from him. The 46-year-old woman was seriously injured by the stab wounds, but was out of danger on Tuesday.
