North Rhine-Westphalia: S-Bahn trains are running again: staff shortages in regional transport

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – After the failure of several S-Bahn lines last week, rail traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia returned to normal at the start of the week. Because a good third of the staff in the control center was absent at short notice due to illness, lines 8, 11, 12 and 13/19 were canceled. Traffic has been running again since Monday morning, according to a spokeswoman.

However, regional trains will continue to be canceled until August 7th. The RB 32 between Duisburg and Dortmund is affected. Here, the railway has organized buses as a rail replacement service. On some parts of the route, customers should switch to parallel routes. The RE 49 from Wesel to Wuppertal is still canceled from Monday to Friday.

There were also problems with other providers. The Nordwestbahn had to cancel trains on the route from Essen to Coesfeld (RE 14) on Monday due to illness among staff. This also occasionally applied to the route from Dortmund to Soest (RB 59).
